Might even be the most important. Its the OG matting technique.

The process involves drawing a image for a given frame and then continuing that images throughout the sequence of images.

From Wikipedia

The technique was invented by Max Fleischer, who used it in his series Out of the Inkwell starting around 1915, with his brother Dave Fleischer dressed in a clown outfit as the live-film reference for the character Koko the Clown. Max patented the method in 1917.

Here is an example:

<OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" WIDTH="480"HEIGHT="288"
CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab">

In this shot we needed to remove the cables. Because of the big camera move this proved pretty difficult. About half way thru the shot I stopped full body rotoscoping and continued the legs so you can see how this is done.

Mean while, the 3D department rebuilt the rock-wall and camera move. Maureen then painted the cables out when they crossed the body of the climber.

All of this took 2 weeks.

Here is the finished shot:

<OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" WIDTH="480"HEIGHT="288"
CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab">

Welcome To The Digital Compositing Blog

I have been Talked into starting a Blog/website about Digital Compositing.

Thanks Matt
